The Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC) portrays in an outstanding manner, the natural environment of the eastern Mediterranean region with a focus on Greece and Crete and operates under the auspices of the University of Crete. The rich flora and wildlife of the Eastern Mediterranean area are constantly being studied, protected, and maintained. The museum is set up in a renovated industrial structure that once served as an electricity-generating facility.
With the University of Crete and other organizations, the Natural History Museum of Crete actively participates in research and teaching initiatives.
