North-east of Crete is where Vai’s palm beach is situated. It takes around 2.5 hours to get there from the capital city of Heraklion. The about 300-meter-long natural beach sits in front of a rare palm forest. It is Crete’s largest palm grove, with about 5000 palm trees.
Vai has golden, fine-grained sand, which is scattered with stones towards the northern end of the beach. The water is stunningly clear and has pretty colours of blue. The beach is equipped with all the necessities, such as sun loungers, sunshades, and showers.
July and August are extremely popular months for Vai. So alternatively, the beach at Psili Ammos is barely 200 metres away, for those who desire a bit more solitude. Psili Ammos, which means “fine sand” in Greek, refers to the quantity of sand on this beach. You should be aware that there are no amenities nearby.
